Our History

Geneva's English pub since 7 May 1969 - more than five decades on the Rue de Lausanne.

  1. The Beginning

On 7 May 1969, Mr. Pickwick opened its doors in Geneva.

Inspired by the traditions of British public houses and the spirit of English hospitality, the pub initially occupied only the upper floor of the building. From the very beginning, it carried the name Mr. Pickwick, a tribute to Samuel Pickwick, the iconic character created by Charles Dickens in The Pickwick Papers.

At a time when authentic English pubs were almost unknown in Switzerland, Mr. Pickwick helped introduce a new style of gathering place to Geneva's international community.
